چکیده

We present a new global three-dimensional chemical model for the troposphere, named CHASER (CHemical AGCM for Study of atmospheric Environment and Radiative forcing). This model, developed in the framework of Center for Climate System Research/National Institute for Environment Studies (CCSR/NIES) atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM), is aimed to study tropospheric photochemistry and its influences on climate. The chemical component of the model simulates the O3-HOx-NOx-CH4-CO photochemical system and oxidation of nonmethane hydrocarbons through 88 chemical and 25 photolytic reactions with 47 chemical species in its present configuration. The model includes emission sources, dry and wet deposition as well as chemical transformations. Meteorological processes such as transport due to advection, convection, and other subgrid-scale mixing are simulated “on-line” by the dynamical component of the CCSR/NIES AGCM. A detailed evaluation of the model results is presented in a companion paper [Sudo et al., this issue]. An evaluation of the transport scheme adopted in the model suggests that the model is capable of simulating transport associated with convection and boundary layer mixing as well as large-scale advection. The model capability to simulate dry and wet deposition was also evaluated by conducting a simulation of atmospheric lead. The simulated lead distributions are consistent with those observed at the surface, showing the validity of the deposition parameterization adopted in the model.

Simultaneous assimilation of satellite NO2, O3, CO, and HNO3 data for the analysis of tropospheric chemical composition and emissions

We have developed an advanced chemical data assimilation system to combine observations of chemical compounds from multiple satellites. NO2, O3, CO, and HNO3 measurements from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES), Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT), and Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) satellite instruments are assimilated into the global...

Theoretical Optimization of Troposphere Ionization Exchange Points to Reduce the Concentration of Fine Dust in Ahvaz City, Iran

Aims: The dust crisis and the numerous problems caused by it, which have affected most of the Western and Southwestern regions of Iran in recent years, need an appropriate and cost-effective solution to improve living and respiratory conditions without adverse human or environmental effects. The purpose of this study was to analyze the location of injection technology equipment to reduce the co...

Determination of Spatial-Temporal Correlation Structure of Troposphere Ozone Data in Tehran City

Spatial-temporal modeling of air pollutants, ground-level ozone concentrations in particular, has attracted recent attention because by using spatial-temporal modeling, can analyze, interpolate or predict ozone levels at any location. In this paper we consider daily averages of troposphere ozone over Tehran city. For eliminating the trend of data, a dynamic linear model is used, then some featu...

Global simulation of tropospheric O 3 -NO x -hydrocarbon chemistry: 3. Origin of tropospheric ozone and effects of nonmethane hydrocarbons

A global three-dimensional model of tropospheric O3-NOx-hydrocarbon chemistry is used to investigate the factors controlling ozone concentrations in the troposphere. Model results indicate a close balance between chemical production and chemical loss of ozone in the tropospheric column at all latitudes (except high latitudes in winter). Using separate tracers for ozone produced in the stratosph...

The Mediterranean summertime ozone maximum: global emission sensitivities and radiative impacts

The Mediterranean troposphere exhibits a marked and localised summertime ozone maximum, which has the potential to strongly impact regional air quality and radiative forcing. The Mediterranean region can be perturbed by long-range pollution import from Northern Europe, North America and Asia, in addition to local emissions, which may all contribute to regional ozone enhancements. We exploit ozo...
